These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the zconnect.io website and the zconnect service at app.zconnect.io, including the registration pages courts share with hearing participants. zconnect.io ("zconnect", "we", "us") provides the service. By using it, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Who these terms apply to
- Courts. A court, court office or other organization that uses zconnect to run hearings ("Court").
- Court staff. Judges, clerks, coordinators and other people who sign in to zconnect on behalf of a Court.
- Participants. Anyone who registers for a hearing through a Court's registration page, such as parties, attorneys, interpreters, advocates and visitors.
If you use zconnect on behalf of a Court, you confirm that you are authorized to do so and that these Terms apply to the Court. If a Court has a separate written agreement with us, or receives zconnect through an agreement between us and another government agency, that agreement controls where it differs from these Terms.
The service
zconnect helps courts run hearings in Zoom. A Court imports its docket, participants register through the Court's registration link and are matched to their case, participants appear in the Court's Zoom meeting labeled with their name and role, and Court staff follow arrivals on the Live Docket Dashboard.
zconnect works alongside Zoom and a Court's existing processes. It is not a case management system or an official court record, it does not decide when cases are called, and it does not admit anyone into a Zoom meeting. Court staff stay in control of the hearing.
We may change, add or remove features over time. If we make a change that significantly reduces the service for a Court, we will let the Court know in advance.
Accounts and Zoom
Court staff sign in with their Court's Zoom account, and zconnect creates and manages the Court's hearing meeting in that account. Your use of Zoom is also governed by Zoom's own terms. You are responsible for keeping your Zoom and zconnect accounts secure and for activity that happens under them. Tell us right away at [email protected] if you believe an account has been used without permission.
Court responsibilities
Each Court is responsible for:
- Its docket. Having the right to import the dockets it uploads and to share that information with us as its service provider. Do not upload sealed or confidential information unless you are permitted to share it with a service provider.
- Reviewing imports. zconnect reads dockets automatically and flags entries it is unsure about, but it can make mistakes. Court staff must review the cases, people and roles on the review screen before approving an import.
- Its registration page. The logo, meeting title and role names it chooses, and where it shares its registration link.
- Read-only links. Deciding who receives a read-only link to the Live Docket Dashboard. Anyone with the link can view that day's participant names, roles and statuses until the Court turns sharing off or resets the link.
- Its hearings. Admitting participants, calling cases, and meeting any legal requirements that apply to its proceedings, such as notice, accessibility and interpreter requirements.
Participants
If you register for a hearing, you agree to give your real name and your correct role, and to use the registration link only to attend your hearing. Do not register as someone else. zconnect does not schedule hearings or promise a hearing time. For questions about your case, your hearing time or how to attend, contact the Court that holds your hearing.
Court data
Dockets, registrations and other information a Court or its participants put into zconnect ("Court Data") belong to the Court. The Court gives us permission to store and process Court Data only as needed to provide and support the service for that Court, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell Court Data, use it for advertising, or use it to train artificial intelligence models.
A Court can ask us to delete its Court Data at any time. Uploaded docket files are deleted automatically 90 days after upload. We may use aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify any Court or person to understand and improve the service.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use zconnect for anything unlawful, or to harass, impersonate or mislead anyone
- Access information you are not authorized to see, or try to get around security or access controls
- Interfere with the service, including by overloading it or introducing malicious code
- Copy, resell or reverse engineer the service, except where the law allows
We may suspend access that breaks these rules or puts the service, a Court or participants at risk.
Fees
Fees are listed on our pricing page, currently $720 per Zoom account per year, billed annually, unless a Court's separate agreement says otherwise. Texas courts' accounts are paid through the Texas Office of Court Administration under its agreement with us, so those courts are not billed directly. Participants never pay to register.
Third-party services
zconnect relies on services provided by other companies, including Zoom. We are not responsible for those services, their availability, or their terms and privacy practices. Our Privacy Policy lists the service providers that handle information for zconnect.
Intellectual property
We own zconnect, including its software, design, videos and content, other than Court Data. These Terms do not give you any rights to our name, logo or trademarks. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Ending use of the service
A Court can stop using zconnect at any time. We may suspend or end access if these Terms are broken, if a Court's agreement or account ends, or if required by law. Where reasonable, we will give notice first. When a Court's account ends, we will delete or de-identify its Court Data as described in our Privacy Policy, and the Court can ask us for a copy of its data before then.
Disclaimer
We work hard to keep zconnect reliable and accurate, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, that dockets will be read without mistakes, or that Zoom and other third-party services will be available.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, zconnect and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or business, arising out of or related to the service, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount the Court paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim, or $100 if nothing was paid.
Some laws do not allow these limits, so they apply only as far as the law allows. Nothing in these Terms waives any immunity or protection a government entity has under law.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules, except where the law that applies to a government entity requires otherwise. If you have a concern or dispute about the service, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it informally.
General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a provision right away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as the service changes. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will notify Court staff by email or in the app. Continuing to use zconnect after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
